The housing market may seem like it is on the back burner during the winter season but that is not the case. In fact, sellers and buyers will find that the winter months are the most advantageous months of the year which is mid December through mid March. Studies show that home sellers that list their homes in the winter will result in a higher net asking price than any other time of year on average of 17% increase.
The winter market produces less sellers which in turn produces an increase in activity and interest from buyers that have few houses available to view. Also, many large corporations do new hires and transfers at the beginning of the year which makes this the perfect timing for sellers. If your home is priced right and shows well, anytime of the year is a good time to sell! Buyers who are looking during the winter months tend to be the more serious prospects as they are not just window shopping like you see people do in the nicer sunny sprint and summer months.
The holidays are also a great time to sell when serious buyers are out and about hoping to find the right home with much less competition. If a buyer is out there looking for property during the busiest time of the year with all of the holiday festivities, parties, and family gatherings going on, they are looking to buy! There are less homes on the market AND less buyers shopping. The good old supply and demand fact proves that sellers will reap the higher profits during this time.
